Seeing as it’s April fools day, there’s a lot of ‘hilarious’ pranks going round. To be fair they’re all pretty lame apart from one which came up again today which always makes me laugh, ‘rickrolling’. It’s when you get a link to a video you think is a cool gaming preview or something but it sends to you to a video of Rick Astley.
Ok this is a big one….. i’ve been mastering the art of Guitar Hero III on my fake Gibson (why do i feel compelled to stand up to play?) and that got me thinking about the new Rock Band game which allows you all to go air guitar, drums and singing crazy!
As usual though the Yanks have already got it and we have to wait until May….. Want proof? I never thought i’d say this but i just watched Robert Scoble ‘rock out’ to the legendary tune of Roxanne over on Justine’s blog. See the full shame here.
Err yep, moving on quickly, my new found love (again) of the guitar means i’m considering (again) buying another guitar so while browsing around youtube for some how-to’s i came across this unbelievable guitarist called Sungha Jung… What’s worse is he’s only 11 but a genius nonetheless so this Friday Rock comeback is dedicated to some real true talent. Oh and a classic rock tune of course…. see how quickly you can guess what he’s playin’
With some time on my hands i’ve been discovering some cool new music, there’s lots of good stuff coming out lately but none has blown me away for originality as much as ‘Hot Chip’. They’ve been around for a while but not really surfaced in the UK until their latest album. They’re a cross between Daft Punk and Erasure (classic!) especially in their new tune ‘Ready for the Floor’ which is brilliant, anyway decide for youselves here’s the video:
Yep, we all know it’s crazytime for investors in 2.0 businesses. Is this bubble gonna burst like last time and leave everyone high and dry? I can’t tell you that but all the signs are there like investing in companies with weak revenue models or based on a platform that requires people to be social…. Anyway here’s a great video which sums it all up in a quirky 3-minute ditty by the Richter Scales to the backing of Billy Joel.
This only leaves the question; what’s your web 2.0 company name and when are you gonna IPO?
It’s been a crazy week with this being the first post!! promise i’ll be back to full form next week but i couldn’t leave for the weekend without some Friday Rock…. So flick back your mullet and get ready to party like a rockstar!
i blogged about staying at the Hard Rock hotel in Vegas a few weeks back, and this became a bit of an anthem being played a lot while i was there. I think it sums up Vegas and what happens at the Hard Rock perfectly….
What a night last Saturday was, i went over to the Mandalay Bay to see a classic rock lineup; Foreigner, Styx and the mighty Leppard! Foreigner warmed things up with some unrecognisable tunes apart from Cold as Ice, but they did give a cracking live performance, Styx were notably similar and i’ve never been a big fan, although the American audience seemed to enjoy them.
Anyway the Leppard rolled out around 9.30 and took the place by storm. After far too many (light!) beers, i payed tribute to the rock royalty by going big in a full rock-style fit to a classic set-list including Rocket, Animal, Hysteria & Love Bites.
They were really awesome live, but saved the best till last and blew the roof off with Pour Some Sugar on Me! Classic. Sounds like a good night you think? That’s only the start of it!
After the concert i headed to the bar in the Mandalay Bay and after busting some moves on the floor, my new found friends from Nebraska got very excited and pointed me in the direction of the bar, great my round again!
So, as i’m wondering round the bar who do i bump into having a beer? Yep, it’s only bloody Joe Elliot! So i gave it some general ramblings about Sheffield and the great nation of Yorkshire and the H is drinking beers with a Rock legend! After that its pretty blurry, but it was a pretty late night so much so that i felt awful for the Rehab pool party, although don’t despair, i still made it….
So that’ll be my money then?! The trip started with a nightmare when i left my driving licence at home only to realise when i got to the rental desk in LAX, the shiny Mustang outside was not coming home to play…. Anyway i still had a few great days in Santa Monica relaxing on the beach and partying at Ye Olde Kings Head ( a mock British pub that seems to be a hit with the locals).
Heading east to Vegas it was time to party like a rock star while staying at the Hard Rock hotel to which i did, landing on Tuesday and not going to bed until 48 hours later on Thursday evening is always a good start! I was here about a year ago, and already theres 8 new hotels and another 4 being built that i can see, it seems the best job here is to be in construction…
So, highlights so far? Too many to mention (besides i gotta go out again its Friday night!) but i saw the legend that is Tom Jones last night at the MGM Grand and he was awesome! He belted out all the classics from only 10 yards from my seat and finished it off with a brutal cover of ‘I like the way you move’ from the BodyRockers! Sounds awful i know but the welsh wizard pulled it off with plenty of hip-thrusting thrown in for good measure….
Next stop on the tour of Legends Def Leppard at the the Mandalay Bay tomorrow night. Let’s Rock.
Check out these smooth moves for your Friday night out. Watch how he pieces together a master sequence at the end. I think i even spotted an early version of the legendary running man…
